Canadian Museum of Nature
About
The Canadian Museum of Nature is Canada’s national museum of natural history and natural sciences. It provides evidence-based insights, inspiring experiences and meaningful engagement with nature’s past, present and future through collections-based research, curation of the national natural-history collection of more than 15 million specimens and artifacts, interactive educational programs, and signature exhibitions.
As a world-class, award-winning national institution, the Canadian Museum of Nature is a trusted source of information about the natural world and is a cultural destination of choice. The Museum engages with over 1.5 million visitors in-person and online annually as we seek to inspire all to be champions for our natural world.
The Museum’s core activities are delivered through its public building in downtown Ottawa, Ontario, and its Natural Heritage Campus in Gatineau, Quebec.
Our Impact
Climate change, changes in land and water use, and pollution are major threats to the Earth’s biodiversity. These are amongst the most complex challenges facing the world today.
A visit to the Canadian Museum of Nature offers an opportunity – for all age groups – to advance one’s understanding and appreciation of nature through evidence, knowledge, engagement, and a sense of wonder. By sharing nature’s story, the Museum strives to increase environmental literacy for current and future generations.
Each year, and grounded in over a century of scientific research and collections excellence, the Canadian Museum of Nature’s educational programs and exhibitions ignite excitement and curiosity with the widest community possible to inspire hearts and minds to action. The Museum’s scientific research and natural-history collections also inspire the next generation of science champions and professionals in the natural sciences.
How your gift will be used
Legacy gifts provide the foundation for long-term stability and growth. They ensure that the Museum can continue to make a lasting impact on generations to come.
These gifts allow the Canadian Museum of Nature to:
- Reach more individuals, more schools, and more underserved communities to foster and strengthen environmental literacy.
- Carry out important research focused on a range of vital biodiversity and geodiversity projects.
- Bring greater national awareness and access to the results of our research and to the national collection, informing our understanding of our planet and how it is changing.
- Develop, care for, and preserve the national collection to document biodiversity and geodiversity over time and space.
Donors making legacy gifts can work one-on-one with a program manager to designate their planned gift to an area that best represents their commitment to the natural world, or they may choose to leave their gift undesignated.
Your legacy has the power to shape the future of the Canadian Museum of Nature and contribute to a world where nature is appreciated, respected and preserved. We invite you to join us in this vital mission and make a lasting impact through your legacy gift.
