About
Since 1986, Egale Canada (Egale) has worked hard to support and improve the lives of Two Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and questioning, and intersex (2SLGBTQI) people in Canada.
Our REAL (Research, Education, Awareness, and Legal Advocacy) approach to 2SLGBTQI belonging and inclusion builds the foundation for impactful and significant changes to legislation, policies, and programs that affect the everyday experiences and freedoms of 2SLGBTQI people in Canada and around the world.
Egale’s mission is to improve the lives of 2SLGBTQI people in Canada and to enhance the global response to 2SLGBTQI issues. Egale will achieve this by informing public policy, inspiring cultural change, and promoting human rights and inclusion through research, education, awareness and legal advocacy.
Our Vision is a Canada, and ultimately a world, without homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and all other forms of oppression so that every person can achieve their full potential, free from hatred and bias.
Our Impact
Research is the foundation of our work, and informs everything we do at Egale. Centering 2SLGBTQI experiences, our research is community-based, participatory, and action-oriented. The reports we publish are used nationally, and often globally, to create positive changes for 2SLGBTQI people.
Education is essential in building more accessible and inclusive spaces for 2SLGBTQI people. Leveraging our research data and reports, we create educational products and resources in order to enable change, particularly in schools, workplaces, and specific sectors like justice, healthcare, and housing.
Our Awareness campaigns and initiatives amplify the voices of 2SLGBTQI communities, and draws attention to some of the most pressing issues in order to inform and inspire the general public to begin their own journeys in building their understanding of 2SLGBTQI belonging and inclusion, starting with our educational resources.
Our Legal Advocacy work aims to protect 2SLGBTQI people in legislation and policy, at all levels of government and beyond. This complements our research, education, and awareness initiatives to ensure the work we do has a lasting impact.
